Faculty Recruitment Job Description

The Neurospine Fellow Instructor is a fully trained neurological surgeon who is Board eligible and has a full medical license to practice in Florida and who has elected to spend one full year learning from senior faculty and teaching residents advanced diagnostic and therapeutic techniques and procedures related to spinal diseases and injuries including their surgical and non-surgical management.

All applicants are required to submit curriculum vitae, three letters of reference, complete an application and are encouraged to visit the program. In addition, applicant must fulfill all other employment and credentialing requirements for instructor status at the University of Miami and its affiliated hospitals.

At the end of this position year, the Instructor will be familiar with anterior/posterior and lateral approaches to all levels of the spinal column including minimally invasive techniques. The Instructor will have an excellent knowledge as well as technical expertise in the application of spinal instrumentation including anterior/posterior cervical plates and screws, transarticular screws, various techniques of occipital cervical fusion, anterior thoracolumbar plates, and thoracolumbar instrumentation including hooks, pedicle

screws, and rods.

The instructor will not negatively affect the residents' experience in the operating room. The instructor will, teach, and perform surgery in conjunction with the neurosurgery spine resident, chief resident, and attending. The chief residents will select room assignments for the instructor and junior residents.

The purpose and stated goal of this job is to develop diagnostic and therapeutic skills of the candidate such that he/she is able to compete for top academic positions and perform as a leader in neurosurgical spine surgery both nationally and internationally.
